Wastewater Treatment Fundamentals I - is a series of self-study courses combined with live, online webinars. The format of these courses is a hybrid one and different from what you may have experienced.  The courses in this series were developed using the Water Environment Federation’s new “Wastewater Fundamentals I, Liquid Treatment” textbook.  The textbook will be shipped to you and an email will be sent to you by the Moderator or Course Instructor containing the first reading assignment to be completed prior to the first webinar.  You will be given a weekly reading and homework assignment, which will then be followed by an webinar presentation with a live instructor.  There will also be an end-of-chapter test.  Homework and tests will closely follow material found in the textbook. The courses in this series are limited to 15 students.

Course #2 - Preliminary and Primary Treatment of Wastewater
Course is approved for 25 wastewater contact hours - PA DEP Course ID 8461.
Estimated time to complete Course #2 is 25 hours over 8 weeks.

This course is the second of eight that uses the “Wastewater Fundamentals I, Liquid Treatment” textbook. The target audience includes: Individuals preparing to take the wastewater operator exam or individuals interested in a basic review of preliminary and primary wastewater treatment.
This textbook was prepared by the Water Environment Federation and the Association of Boards of Certifications. Content of Course #2 includes: Preliminary Treatment of Wastewater (Screening, Grit Removal, Regulatory Considerations) and Primary Treatment of Wastewater (Purpose & Function, Design Parameters, Equipment, Process Variables & Controls, Data Collection/Sampling/Analysis, Troubleshooting, Safety Considerations).

PWEA uses AnyMeeting webinar software.  After the registration fee is paid, you will at a later date receive a webinar invitation email from the webinar software. You'll need to download the AnyMeeting App in order to participate in the webinars (
https://www.anymeeting.com/AccountManager/DownloadInstaller.aspx) OR you will be able to link to the webinars using the Chrome web browser (no other browser will work). The webinar link is specific for your use only, so do not share the link with anyone else - each registrant receives a unique link.  If the registrant's computer does not contain a microphone, a phone number and an access code will also be provided in order to hear and communicate with the webinar instructor by phone while viewing PowerPoint slides on their computer monitor.  The weekly webinar portion is scheduled to take two hours.  You will have an opportunity to ask the instructor questions and have group discussions.

In order to receive an attendance transcript and/or PA DEP contact hours, participation in all webinars is required.  Review the Course #2 Schedule below to ensure that you can participate in all the webinars.  Participation in the webinars will be tracked by the webinar software.
