2019 PA DEP Operator Certification Exams

The Pennsylvania Water Environment Association (PWEA) is offering PA DEP Operator Certification Exams on different dates and locations in 2019.  You may register for more than one exam date, but you should allow at least 30 days between exam dates so DEP has time to grade exams and send pass/fail notifications.

Register for your exam(s) through PWEA's online registration system.  Payment is required by credit card for online registrations. 


NOTE: Registration is a two-part process.  You must first complete the online registration pages and pay the registration fee in order to reserve your seat; and then you MUST complete and return the DEP Certification Exam Registration Form within 10 work days in order to select the tests you wish to take.

June 5, 2019, 9:00am-1:00pm - Penn Stater Hotel in State College
August 7, 2019, 9:00am-1:00pm - Exam is Full
October 16, 2019, 9:00am-1:00pm - Clarion Hotel in New Cumberland
November 21, 2019, 9:00am-1:00pm - NC DEP Regional Office in Williamsport


Exam registration fees are:  $55 for PWEA Members or $105 for Non-Members. 

Before registering, please download and review the DEP informational document titled "Important Information for Operators Taking 2019 Certification Exams" PDF.

In addition to registering online, you MUST also complete and submit the PA DEP Certification Exam Registration Form,
on which you will indicate your requested Class as well as specific Water or Wastewater tests you wish to takeCompleted DEP Registration Forms must be returned by email to pwea@pwea.org OR faxed to 717-303-5219 within 10 days or registering online.  Your registration confirmation email will contain links to download the DEP Registration form.

You will receive a system-generated confirmation which reserves your seat at the exam, after completing the registration fee payment.  A formal, detailed confirmation letter will be emailed to the email address you’ve provided, which will include the exam date, location and tests you selected on the PA DEP Registration Form.   Please ensure you mark pwea@pwea.org as a safe sender in your address book to prevent the confirmation letter from going to the Spam or Junk folder.  

Cancellation Policy: There will be no refunds after the detailed confirmation letter has been processed and emailed to you.

PennTec 2019 Annual Conference

On behalf of the PWEA Board of Directors and the 2019 Conference Committee, we invite you to attend PWEA's 91st Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (PennTec 2019) on June 2-5 at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel in State College, PA.

This year's Conference Program includes a wide range of topics related to water quality.  In addition to the Conference technical sessions, we are also presenting workshops which have been approved by the PA DEP for additional contact hours for wastewater and drinking water operator licenses.  By attending these workshops, you could earn up to 14.0 DEP contact hours, or up to 16.75 Professional Development Hours, in just a few days!

Remember, workshops are available at no additional charge to those who register for the Full Conference using the Conference Registration Form.  Those who register for any category less than the Full Conference may add workshops for the fees listed on the Workshop Registration Form.  Seating is limited so you must register in advance to reserve your seat.  Information about workshops can be found by downloading the PennTec 2019 Workshop Information.  Conference registration fees can be found on the PennTec 2019 Registration Form.  

A very important part of the Conference is the Vendor Exhibition.  By visiting the exhibits, you will gain insight into new and innovative solutions and discover new products and equipment that will help you do your job in a more efficient and safer manner.  We encourage you to talk to the vendors about what is most important to you.

The Conference includes networking opportunities for you to meet and interact with your colleagues.  The Students & Young Professionals (SYP) Committee is organizing a Community Service Project on Sunday.  The President's Reception will be in the Exhibit Hall on Monday evening.  The Annual PWEA Awards Ceremony and Reception will be held on Monday night.  The Beer & Pretzels Reception and Operator Olympics will be on Tuesday afternoon.  

NEW FOR 2019 - There will be an Operations Challenge event on Monday.  Also on Monday, the Students & Young Professionals Committee will host the first annual SYP Summit networking event.  And on Tuesday, there will be a Women in Water Summit networking event.

Cancellation/Substitution Policy  No refunds granted after April 30th. A $50 cancellation fee will be assessed on refund requests received by April 30th. Refunds must be requested in writing. Substitutions are permitted with a $25 per person substitution fee. Substitutions may be made until May 15th and must be made in writing, accompanied by a new registration form.

PWEA Distribution Systems Course

A One-Day PA DEP Approved Course
Friday, July 12, 2019 - Cranberry Township, PA

This course is presented by the PWEA Professional Wastewater Operations Committee.  It has been approved for 5.5 PA DEP contact hours for drinking water operator licenses. A total of 6.5 Professional Development Hours may be earned by attendees with Professional Engineer licenses.

Conference Overview

There are various components and considerations which must be addressed in a distribution system.  The goal of this workshop is to supply students with the necessary knowledge to prepare for the distribution system certification examination. Content will include: Distribution Operator Certification; Distribution Network Components; Distribution Storage; and Water Quality and Monitoring.
  

Target Audience
This course is intended to help participants prepare for the Class E certification examination. Therefore, the target audience is those who wish to take the Class E certification or those who wish to gain a better understanding of distribution system networks, storage and monitoring.


Learning Objectives
At the end of this course, the participant will be able to:
  • Describe the certification process for Water Class E Certification;
  • Identify the components of a distribution network;
  • Explain the basics of distribution system hydraulics;
  • Describe the basic principles of distribution system storage facilities; and
  • Identify water quality concerns and monitoring in a distribution system.
