SUMMARY
Under general supervision of the Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent/Laboratory Technician of the Wastewater Treatment Plant at the Municipality of Bethel Park is responsible for providing analysis in support of wastewater treatment operations; ensures policies, procedures, and methods are adhered to; provide training to plant personnel on proper laboratory and sampling process if needed; perform technical and complex tasks as assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES
· Plan and perform chemical, biological, and physical tests of wastewater to determine the efficiency of the chemical and biological processes within the wastewater treatment plant
· Establish schedules and methods for laboratory analysis and quality assurance program
· Identify resource needs, review needs with appropriate management, and allocate resources accordingly
· Coordinate, plan and schedule external laboratories when required

· Compiles data, maintains records, and enters data into lab software
· Performs PADEP mandated quality control sample tests, daily instrument calibration and in-house quality control testing
· Oversee appearance of laboratory, cleaning and washing of laboratory supplies
· Updates laboratory sampling and testing procedures as required or improved methods become available
· Stay current on possible treatment trends
· Use statistical analysis to show trends and prepare reports as needed
· Communicate with plant staff to identify any deficiencies of treatment and possible solutions

Nature of the Work
The Operator is responsible for the daily operation, monitoring, maintenance, chemical handling, and troubleshooting of the Oley Township Municipal Authority (OTMA) potable water system and wastewater treatment facility. OTMA serves approximately 850 water and sewer customers within Oley Township.
The potable water system consists of four wells and two water storage tanks, which must be maintained to ensure consistent supply and safe water quality. Responsibilities may include treatment system monitoring and adjustments, flow readings, collecting samples, regulatory reporting, field testing, and inspection and maintenance of mechanical equipment/pumps and controls. Tasks will be completed under the supervision of a licensed operator. Treatment systems may range in size and complexity from small-scale systems, pump stations, and medium municipal systems with various treatment technologies.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
Complete work tasks under the supervision of a licensed operator.
