Introduction to Wastewater Treatment - WWTF Course #1
6/10/2020 - 7/22/2020
1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Event Description
Wastewater Treatment Fundamentals I - is a series of correspondence (self-study) courses combined with online webinars. The format of these courses is a hybrid one and different from what many of you may have experienced.  The courses in this series were developed using the Water Environment Federation’s new “Wastewater Fundamentals I, Liquid Treatment” textbook.  The textbook will be shipped to you and an email will be sent to you containing the first reading assignment to be completed prior to the first webinar.  You will be given a weekly reading and homework assignment, which will then be followed by an online (webinar) presentation with a live instructor.  There will also be an end-of-chapter test.  Homework and tests will closely follow material found in the textbook. The courses in this series are limited to 15 students.

Questions about this series of courses should be directed to Susan Boynton at sboynton@pwea.org or at 717-642-9500.

Course #1 is approved for 15 contact hours - PA DEP Course ID 8210.  Estimated time to complete Course #1 is 15 hours over 5 weeks.

This course is the first of seven that uses the “Wastewater Fundamentals I, Liquid Treatment” textbook, as training in preparation to take the Pennsylvania wastewater operator certification exam. This textbook was prepared by the Water Environment Federation and the Association of Boards of Certifications. Content of Course #1 includes: Why Treat Wastewater; Components of Wastewater; The Clean Water Act; Basic Wastewater Treatment Processes; Role of the Treatment Plant Operator; and Characterization of Wastewater. The target audience includes: Individuals preparing to take the wastewater operator exam or interested in a basic review of wastewater treatment.

PWEA uses AnyMeeting webinar software.  After the registration fee is paid, you will receive a webinar invitation email from the AnyMeeting software. You'll need to download the AnyMeeting App in order to participate in the webinars (
https://www.anymeeting.com/AccountManager/DownloadInstaller.aspx) OR you will be able to link to the webinars using the Chrome web browser (no other browser will work). The link is specific for your use only, so do not share the link with anyone else - each registrant receives a unique link.  Registrants will also be provided with a phone number and an access code so they can participate in the webinars by phone with the instructor at the scheduled time.  The weekly webinar portion is scheduled to take two hours.  You will have an opportunity to ask the instructor questions and have group discussions.

In order to receive an attendance transcript and/or PA DEP contact hours, participation in all webinars is required.  Review the Course #1 Schedule below to ensure that you can participate in all the webinars.  Participation in the webinars will be tracked by the AnyMeeting software.  Webinars for Course #1 are scheduled for 1:00-3:00pm on the dates shown below.
